Shampa Reza

Shampa Reza received her foundational education at Holy Cross Girls' High School and BAF Shaheen College in Dhaka. In 1976, she traveled to Shantiniketan, India, to pursue advanced studies in music at the prestigious Visva-Bharati University, an experience that profoundly shaped her artistic philosophy and classical musical expertise.

Shampa Reza's artistic journey began remarkably early; she started formal singing lessons at the age of four under the tutelage of Guru Pandit Dhruva Tara Joshi. This rigorous early training in classical music laid the groundwork for her exceptional vocal control and musical depth. Her musical talent quickly became evident, setting the stage for a lifetime of artistic achievement.

Her acting career officially launched in 1975 when she was still a tenth-grade student. She secured a role in the theatrical play Ostrotogandha, directed by the legendary Selim Al Deen. This early exposure to serious theater provided her with invaluable experience and honed her dramatic skills, preparing her for a successful transition to mainstream media.

Shampa achieved a major breakthrough in television with her compelling performance in the popular drama Idiot. Her natural acting style and strong screen presence resonated deeply with viewers, establishing her as a prominent television actress. Throughout the following decades, she became a regular fixture on Bangladeshi television, balancing her acting with her continuing musical career.

In the realm of cinema, Shampa has delivered several critically acclaimed performances. A notable highlight of her film career is her role in the 2011 film Guerilla, based on the Bangladesh Liberation War, for which she won the prestigious Bachsas Award for Best Supporting Actress. She continued to take on challenging roles in films like Rina Brown and the recent action thriller Before I Die.

In addition to acting and singing, Shampa is a skilled television host. She famously hosted the popular chat show Alor Atithi O Shampa for RTV in 2006, where her conversational prowess and cultural knowledge shone brightly. Her recent appearances in modern web series like Chorki's Internsheep demonstrate her continued relevance and adaptability in the modern digital entertainment era.

Shampa Reza was born in Dhaka to Ahmed Reza and Ranu Reza, a family that nurtured her early artistic inclinations. During the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, her family endured significant hardships, seeking shelter in the Kalyani refugee camp in India. These early life experiences deeply influenced her worldview and are often reflected in the emotional depth of her performances.

She is a devoted mother to two sons, Dhrubo and Tiash, and takes great pride in her role as a grandmother. Despite the demands of her multifaceted career, Shampa has always prioritized her family life. She is known among her peers for her warmth, wisdom, and the graceful manner in which she navigates both her public and private spheres.

Beyond the stage and screen, Shampa is a passionate educator and institution builder. She is the founder of Rodela Chottor, a school dedicated to holistic education. Additionally, she established Anandaniketan, a school in Sylhet that successfully enrolled hundreds of students, highlighting her deep commitment to youth development and educational philanthropy in Bangladesh.
