He completed his early education at Willes Little Flower School in Dhaka, where he first met his future bandmates.

Jon Kabir later attended North South University, balancing his higher education with his burgeoning musical career.

In the late 1990s, Jon Kabir co-founded the pioneering Bangladeshi rock band Black with his childhood friends. They initially started by jamming and covering songs by legendary grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. The band quickly gained traction in the underground music scene, releasing their highly acclaimed debut album, Amar Prithibi, in 2002. This release cemented Jon's status as a leading voice in the country's alternative rock movement.

Throughout the 2000s, Jon remained the driving force behind Black, serving as their primary vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Under his leadership, the band released several more successful studio albums, shaping the tastes of a generation. However, in 2011, he officially departed from the group to pursue new artistic directions and personal growth. His departure marked the end of an era for the band's original lineup.

In 2012, Jon co-founded a new rock outfit called Indalo with fellow musicians Zubair, Bart, and Dio Haque. The band introduced a fresh sound to the local scene, debuting their first single "ISD" to enthusiastic crowds. They released their debut studio album, Kokhon Kibhabe Ekhane Ke Jane, in 2015, which featured several hit tracks. Indalo has since released numerous popular singles, maintaining a strong presence in the industry.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Jon Kabir ventured into acting after receiving encouragement from industry veterans like Afsana Mimi and Suborna Mustafa. He appeared in several television dramas and telefilms, receiving praise for his natural on-screen presence and versatility. Despite his success, he took a hiatus from acting to focus entirely on his musical projects and other creative passions. He has stated his preference for unique cameo roles over traditional character tropes.

In 2020, Jon launched his own YouTube interview series titled 'I Started a Podcast'. The show features in-depth conversations with various experts, musicians, and public figures, showcasing Jon's skills as an engaging host. Recently, in May 2024, he participated in a highly anticipated reunion concert with Black in Dhaka. Following this event, he relocated to the United States, where he continues to work on solo music and collaborate with artists in the New York City scene.
