Tutul completed his higher education at Chittagong University, where he initially earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree.

He later continued his extensive academic studies at the exact same institution to complete his Master's degree. Despite his formal academic focus, his profound love for classical piano and his brilliantly self-taught musical skills ultimately guided him toward a professional music career.

S. I. Tutul began his professional music career in 1991 as a founding member of the iconic Bangladeshi rock band Love Runs Blind, commonly known as LRB. Working alongside the legendary rock guitarist and vocalist Ayub Bachchu, Tutul honed his skills as a keyboardist, guitarist, and backing vocalist. His time with LRB provided him with immense exposure and live performance experience across the country, playing at countless sold-out arenas.

In 2005, seeking to explore his own unique musical vision, he decided to branch out and form his own musical group, initially named Face to Face. This highly successful band was later rebranded as Dhrubotara in 2011, with Tutul serving as the lead vocalist and primary composer. Under his creative leadership, Dhrubotara released several hit tracks that cemented his reputation as a versatile and charismatic frontman.

Parallel to his band commitments, Tutul pursued a highly successful career as a playback singer and music director in the Bangladeshi film industry. He quickly became the most highly sought-after playback singer of his era, lending his powerful voice to hundreds of cinematic tracks. His deeply melodious voice became the absolute staple for romantic and emotional sequences in mainstream Bengali cinema.

One of his most significant career milestones came when he directed the entire music score for the critically acclaimed film Daruchini Dwip in 2007. This prestigious project not only showcased his compositional brilliance but also earned him the highly coveted Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Director. He continued this incredible winning streak with outstanding vocal performances in hit films like Bhalobaslei Ghor Bandha Jay Na and Bapjaner Bioscope.

Beyond mainstream cinema, S. I. Tutul has composed numerous popular jingles, title tracks for television dramas, and official themes for international sporting events. He has toured extensively around the world, performing to massive crowds in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Even in 2026, his enduring passion for music composition and live performances keeps him at the absolute forefront of the Bangladeshi music scene.

S. I. Tutul has experienced a highly dynamic and widely covered personal life alongside his high-profile public career. In 1999, he married the renowned Bangladeshi actress, model, and choreographer Tania Ahmed. The couple quickly became one of the most famous celebrity pairings in the country and had children together, including their musically inclined son Arash.

In 2021, Tutul and Tania Ahmed mutually decided to part ways, ending their long-term marriage. Following this major life transition, Tutul found love again and quietly married Sharmin Siraj Rumali in 2022. He has largely maintained a private and respectful demeanor regarding his new marital life, choosing to focus his public interactions strictly on his artistic and musical projects.

Outside of his studio music and family life, Tutul is heavily involved in philanthropic activities and educational initiatives. He previously served as a special ambassador for several Bangladeshi government ministries and international organizations like UNICEF and WHO. He also co-founded an international school to actively promote high-quality education and the performing arts among the youth.
