Jitesh Sharma received his basic education in his hometown of Amravati, Maharashtra, where he focused on balancing his early academics with rigorous cricket training.

He prioritized his sporting development over higher education, dedicating his time to local academies and district-level tournaments that eventually paved the way for his selection into the Vidarbha age-group teams.

Jitesh Mohan Sharma began his professional domestic career representing Vidarbha, making his List A debut in the 2013–14 Vijay Hazare Trophy. His natural ability to score quick runs and clear the boundary ropes immediately caught the attention of regional selectors. He soon transitioned to first-class cricket, making his Ranji Trophy debut in late 2015, where he continued to hone his temperament for longer formats. Despite early challenges in finding absolute consistency, his exceptional strike rate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy positioned him as a limited-overs specialist.

His first experience in the Indian Premier League came when he was drafted by the Mumbai Indians in 2016. Although he did not feature prominently in the playing XI, the exposure to international legends and elite training facilities proved crucial for his long-term development. Returning to the domestic circuit with renewed focus, he dominated the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing as Vidarbha's leading run-scorer. He made his international debut against Nepal during the Asian Games, playing a role in India's gold-medal triumph and subsequently featuring in bilateral series against Australia and South Africa.

In 2025, his market value skyrocketed when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) acquired him for a staggering ₹11 crore during the mega auction. In August 2024, Jitesh married his long-time partner, Shalaka Makeshwar. Shalaka is a highly educated IT professional and senior software test engineer based in Nagpur, holding a degree in Electronics and Telecommunication. She is often seen supporting him from the stands during crucial IPL encounters, and the couple shares a strong, supportive bond.

Off the field, Jitesh is known for his friendly and jovial nature. During the 2026 IPL season, he playfully made headlines after calling 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 'unprofessional' on a podcast, which he later clarified was just friendly banter between close brothers.
