Morishita honed his tactical awareness and physical endurance during his collegiate football career at Meiji University. His standout performances in the university leagues led to a professional contract with Sagan Tosu upon his graduation.

Ryoya Morishita officially commenced his professional career in 2020 when he signed with Sagan Tosu in the J1 League. He made an immediate impact, marking his debut season with crucial league goals and cementing his position as a dynamic wide player. Following a highly productive rookie campaign, he transferred to Nagoya Grampus in December 2020, where he successfully transitioned into an attacking wing-back role and won the J.League Cup in 2021.

Seeking to test his abilities in Europe, Morishita secured a loan move to Polish Ekstraklasa club Legia Warsaw in January 2024. He made history as the first Japanese player to represent the historic club. His time in Poland was highly successful; he scored crucial goals in domestic and UEFA Conference League fixtures. In May 2025, his spectacular performance in the Polish Cup final, where he scored and provided two assists, secured the trophy for Legia and earned him Player of the Match honors.

Following his heroics in Poland, English Championship side Blackburn Rovers acquired Morishita in August 2025 on a three-year deal. He adapted swiftly to English football, scoring the winning goal on his full debut against Watford. Throughout the 2025-2026 season, he was an absolute revelation at Ewood Park, demonstrating incredible versatility across the midfield.

During his maiden Championship campaign, Morishita scored four goals and registered nine assists in 37 appearances. His 13 goal contributions set a new record for the most by a Japanese player in a single Championship season. His pivotal performances, including a goal and an assist in a vital victory over Sheffield United, helped secure Rovers' safety in the division. His immense popularity and on-field excellence culminated in him winning the 2025-2026 Blackburn Rovers Player of the Year award with 38% of the vote.

Internationally, Morishita made his senior debut for the Japanese national team in 2023. He scored his first international goal in a commanding victory over Indonesia in June 2025. With his phenomenal form in England, he remains a highly reliable and versatile option for manager Hajime Moriyasu heading into the 2026 World Cup cycle.
