Iftikhar Ahmed completed his secondary education in Peshawar, where he was a standout athlete in school-level cricket. He focused primarily on his sporting development from a young age, leading him to join regional clubs shortly after finishing his matriculation in 2006.

He did not pursue higher formal education, as he was quickly drafted into the regional Peshawar Panthers squad, where he began his professional journey in the domestic circuit.

Iftikhar Ahmed's professional career began in 2010 with the Peshawar Panthers, where he quickly became the leading run-scorer in regional tournaments. He spent several years grinding in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the Pakistan Cup, often topping the batting charts for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. He made his international debut in 2015 against England, but his career truly took off after he reinvented himself as a T20 specialist in 2019.

He was the player of the tournament in the 2021-22 National T20 Cup, leading Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a successful title defense.
