Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his initial schooling at St. Joseph's Boys' High School in Pune. He later pursued his higher education at the prestigious Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College of Commerce (MMCC) in Pune, successfully balancing his academic commitments with his highly demanding cricket training schedule.

Ruturaj Gaikwad's cricketing journey began at the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in Pune, where his exceptional talent was nurtured from a very young age. He made his first-class debut for Maharashtra during the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season, quickly followed by his impressive T20 and List A debuts. During the 2017 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he amassed an incredible 444 runs in just seven matches, establishing himself as a highly prolific top-order run-scorer.

His incredibly consistent domestic dominance caught the immediate attention of the Chennai Super Kings, who acquired him ahead of the 2019 IPL season. While he initially had to wait for his opportunity, the 2021 IPL season proved to be a monumental breakthrough for the young opener. His father, Dashrath Gaikwad, worked as a dedicated employee for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), while his mother, Sawita, is a teacher by profession. Despite their incredibly strong educational background, his parents actively encouraged his profound passion for cricket, never pressuring him to blindly prioritize academics over his sporting ambitions.

In June 2023, Gaikwad married his long-time girlfriend, Utkarsha Pawar, who is also a professional cricketer representing Maharashtra in various domestic tournaments.
