She attended Palasi Girls' School up to the seventh grade in 1961. Her formal education was cut short as she began performing as a dancer in film groups to start her career.

Anowara's artistic journey began in 1961 when she was still a seventh-grade student at Palasi Girls' School. Her initial foray into the entertainment world was as a group dancer in the unreleased film 'Aajan'. Despite the setback of her debut film not reaching the theaters, she remained undeterred. She continued to hone her craft, appearing as a background dancer in early 1960s films like 'Nachghor' and 'Preeti Na Jane Reet', gradually building her on-camera confidence.

Her first significant acting opportunity arrived in 1964 with a supporting role in Zahir Raihan's critically acclaimed film 'Sangam'. This exposure allowed her to demonstrate her acting capabilities and transition away from mere dance sequences. By 1967, she had secured a leading role in the film 'Bala', which showcased her potential as a dramatic actress. This period marked her official arrival as a serious performer in the burgeoning local film industry.

The major breakthrough of her career occurred later in 1967 when she was cast as Aleya in Khan Ataur Rahman's historical masterpiece, 'Nawab Sirajuddaula'. Her powerful portrayal of the tragic and loyal character resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike, making her an overnight sensation. The immense success of this film firmly established Anowara as a household name and opened the doors to numerous high-profile projects.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Anowara evolved to take on more mature and complex character roles. Starting around 1972, she became the industry's go-to actress for playing pivotal motherly and matriarchal figures. Her performances in iconic films such as 'Golapi Ekhon Traine' (1978) and 'Sundori' (1979) earned her consecutive National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress, solidifying her reputation as a powerhouse of talent.

In 1986, Anowara reached the pinnacle of critical acclaim by winning the National Film Award for Best Actress for her titular role in Chashi Nazrul Islam's 'Shuvoda'. She continued to work prolifically through the 1990s and 2000s, adding prestige to every project she joined. Her remarkable stamina and dedication allowed her to remain active in the industry well into the 2010s, cementing her legacy as a cornerstone of Bangladeshi cinema.

Anowara Begum was born and raised in a traditional Bangladeshi family, where her early interest in the arts was met with the typical societal reservations of the era. However, her undeniable talent and persistence eventually won over her family's support. She balanced her early education at Palasi Girls' School with her growing commitments in the film industry, showcasing a strong work ethic from a young age.

In 1972, at the height of her early career success, Anowara married Muhitul Islam Muhit. The couple built a stable and loving home life away from the demanding spotlight of the film studios. They welcomed a daughter, Rumana Islam Mukti, who brought immense joy to their lives. Anowara has always prioritized her family, successfully managing the delicate balance between her rigorous shooting schedules and her responsibilities as a wife and mother.

Today, Anowara enjoys the role of a doting grandmother to her granddaughter, Karima Darodi. Despite her massive fame, she has maintained a reputation for humility and kindness within the industry.
