Sarjis Alam

Sarjis Alam completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) at BAF Shaheen College Dhaka, establishing a strong academic foundation.

He then enrolled at the prestigious University of Dhaka, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Zoology. During his time at the university, he actively participated in debate competitions and student politics, which shaped his future career path.

Sarjis Alam's political journey began in 2017 when he joined the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) upon his admission to the University of Dhaka. His early involvement in student politics helped him understand the dynamics of campus leadership and student mobilization. In 2019, his rising popularity led to his election to the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) from the Chhatra League panel.

However, growing disillusioned with the organization's practices, Sarjis officially resigned from the Chhatra League in 2022. He shifted his focus toward independent student advocacy and debate. His definitive breakthrough came in mid-2024 when he joined the Students Against Discrimination movement as a central coordinator, playing a crucial role in organizing mass protests against the controversial quota system in government jobs.

As the protests escalated into a nationwide mass uprising, Sarjis, along with other student leaders, faced police detention. Their resilience galvanized the public, eventually causing the collapse of the Awami League government in August 2024. In the aftermath, he served as the Secretary General of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation under the interim government of Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

In February 2025, Sarjis formally entered national politics by helping launch the National Citizen Party (NCP). He was appointed as the Chief Organizer for the Northern Region, tasked with mobilizing support in his home district and surrounding areas. He tirelessly campaigned across the country, advocating for systemic reforms and youth empowerment.

In the 2026 general elections, Sarjis contested for a parliamentary seat from the Panchagarh-1 constituency using the NCP's water lily bud symbol. Despite his immense popularity among the youth, he lost the election. Following the results, he made headlines by strongly condemning post-election violence orchestrated by rival political factions and actively spoke out against alleged foreign interference in Bangladesh's domestic affairs.

Sarjis Alam was born into a middle-class Muslim family in the border village of Bamonkumar in Atwari Upazila, Panchagarh. His father, Aktaruzzaman Saju, is a local businessman, and his mother, Bakera Begum, is a dedicated homemaker. He has one younger brother who is pursuing his undergraduate studies at Dhaka College.

On January 31, 2025, amidst his rising political career, Sarjis married his spouse, Raita. The wedding was a private affair, attended by close family and prominent figures from the student movement.

Outside of politics, Sarjis is known for his traditional values, which have occasionally sparked public controversy. In 2025, he faced significant backlash from human rights groups for his strong public statements against LGBTQ+ rights, reflecting his conservative personal views. Despite the controversies, he maintains a massive following and resides primarily in Dhaka while frequently visiting his hometown in Panchagarh.
