Parveen Sultana

Parveen Sultana Diti completed her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations at Eden Mohila College in Dhaka. This prestigious institution provided her with a strong academic foundation during her formative years.

She later enrolled at Lalmatia Women College in Dhaka, where she pursued her higher education. She successfully graduated from the institution, earning her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree before fully committing to her entertainment career.

Parveen Sultana Diti began her journey in the entertainment world not as an actress, but as a talented singer. She actively participated in various singing competitions and frequently performed on Bangladesh Television (BTV). Her vocal abilities were highly regarded, earning her an award from the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

During a BTV singing performance, renowned actor Al Mansur noticed her exceptional stage presence. He cast Diti in the television drama Laili Majnu opposite actor Manas Bandopadhyay, marking her official acting debut. This television exposure opened new doors, leading her to participate in the Notun Mukher Sondhane talent hunt competition in 1984.

Diti's cinematic journey started with the film Daak Diye Jai, directed by Udayon Chowdhury, though the movie was unfortunately never released. Her first released feature film was Ami-i Ostad, which introduced her to a wider audience. She quickly established herself as a leading actress in the Dhallywood film industry.

Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Diti starred in numerous commercially successful movies. Some of her most notable works include Shami Stri, Dui Jibon, Benam Badshah, and Kaliya. Her exceptional performance in the 1987 film Shami Stri earned her the prestigious Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In her later career, Diti transitioned into playing diverse character roles, showcasing her incredible versatility on screen. She also hosted a highly popular television cooking show, demonstrating her multifaceted media talents. Over her extraordinary lifetime, Diti successfully acted in more than 200 films, leaving an indelible, lasting mark on Bangladeshi cinema before her untimely passing in 2016.

Parveen Sultana Diti was born into a supportive Muslim family to parents Abul Hossain and Nurjahan Begum. She shared a close bond with her family and remained grounded despite her immense fame. Her early life in Sonargaon helped shape her strong values and dedication to her loved ones.

In 1986, Diti married actor Sohel Chowdhury, who had also been a winner in the same talent hunt competition that launched her career. The couple welcomed two children together: a daughter named Lamia Chowdhury, born in 1987, and a son named Shafayet Chowdhury Dipto, born in 1989. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce, and tragically, Sohel Chowdhury passed away in 1998.

Following her separation from Chowdhury, Diti married popular actor Ilias Kanchan. However, this marriage also ended in divorce. Throughout her life, Diti prioritized her children, balancing her demanding acting career with her responsibilities as a devoted mother.

In July 2015, Diti was diagnosed with brain cancer, leading to extensive medical treatments in Chennai, India. Despite her courageous battle with the illness, she passed away on March 20, 2016, at United Hospital in Dhaka. She was laid to rest in her hometown of Sonargaon, remembered fondly by her family, fans, and colleagues.
