Mahedi Hasan

Mahedi Hasan completed his early schooling in the Khulna district of Bangladesh, graduating around 2012. His educational pursuits were closely intertwined with his cricketing development, as he represented his school teams before transitioning into the professional domestic leagues in Khulna.

Mahedi Hasan launched his professional cricket career with an impressive Twenty20 debut for the Barisal Bulls in the 2016–17 Bangladesh Premier League on November 8, 2016. His ability to bowl economical off-spin in the powerplay quickly made him a sought-after player in domestic franchise cricket. He continued to refine his all-round game, eventually establishing himself as a core member of the Khulna Division in first-class cricket.

His breakthrough in the longer format came in November 2018, when he secured his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket while playing for South Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League. This achievement proved that his bowling skills were not limited strictly to the T20 format. His consistent domestic exploits soon paved the way for his introduction to the international arena.

Mahedi made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka on February 18, 2018. While he faced stiff competition for a permanent spot in the national side, he remained a prominent figure in the domestic circuit. In late 2019, he showcased his leadership and all-round capabilities by helping the Bangladesh team win the gold medal at the South Asian Games, defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

His perseverance finally paid off when he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand on March 20, 2021. Later that same year, he was selected for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad. During the tournament, he emerged as a key bowler for Bangladesh, picking up 8 wickets in 7 innings at a remarkable average. His best bowling figure of 3/19 highlighted his effectiveness on the global stage.

In the ensuing years, Mahedi Hasan has remained a vital cog in Bangladesh's white-ball squads. He represented the national team in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and was named in the squad for the 2025 Asia Cup.
