Camilo Vargas received his foundational football education at the youth academy of Independiente Santa Fe in Bogotá. He steadily progressed through their developmental ranks before making his senior professional debut for the club in 2007.

Camilo Vargas launched his professional career with Independiente Santa Fe in 2007, where he spent seven highly successful years. He played an instrumental role in helping the club secure the Categoría Primera A championship in 2012, marking their first league title in nearly four decades. His exceptional domestic form firmly established him as one of Colombia's premier goalkeeping talents, earning him widespread recognition.

In 2015, he transferred to Atlético Nacional, seeking new competitive challenges within the Colombian top flight. After a brief period with Nacional and a loan spell at Argentinos Juniors in Argentina, he moved to Deportivo Cali in 2016. He was the undisputed hero of the Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022 seasons, helping Atlas win back-to-back Liga MX titles and ending their 70-year championship drought.

Internationally, Vargas has been a staple of the Colombia national team for over a decade.
