Brenden Aaronson's professional soccer journey began in the Philadelphia Union youth academy, where his exceptional vision and work rate quickly set him apart. He signed his first professional contract as a homegrown player in 2018, initially gaining experience with Bethlehem Steel FC in the USL. By the 2019 season, he broke into the Philadelphia Union starting lineup, ultimately helping the club secure its first-ever Supporters' Shield in 2020 while earning a spot on the MLS Best XI.

His dominant domestic form attracted the attention of European scouts, leading to a landmark transfer to Austrian powerhouse Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021. Under the guidance of American manager Jesse Marsch, Aaronson thrived in Salzburg's high-pressing system.
