Yann Sommer

Yann Sommer started his early football education at FC Herrliberg in 1996 before moving to Concordia Basel in 1997 to further refine his goalkeeping fundamentals.

He joined the esteemed FC Basel youth academy in 2003, where he spent two crucial years mastering his technical skills and positional play before graduating to the Under-21 squad in 2005.

Yann Sommer's professional journey began with FC Basel, where he progressed through the youth ranks. After gaining vital first-team experience during successful loan spells at FC Vaduz and Grasshoppers, he returned to establish himself as Basel's first-choice goalkeeper. His time at Basel was highly successful, securing four consecutive Swiss Super League titles and demonstrating his vast potential to scouts across Europe.

In 2014, Sommer transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga, stepping in as the replacement for Marc-André ter Stegen. He spent nearly a decade at the club, becoming a fan favorite and one of the league's most consistent performers. In January 2023, Bayern Munich acquired Sommer to fill the void left by an injured Manuel Neuer.
