Mito developed his exceptional close ball control and tactical awareness within the Fukushima Academy system. His standout performances in domestic youth tournaments led directly to his professional recruitment by Albirex Niigata.

Shunsuke Mito officially began his professional football career with Albirex Niigata in 2021. Despite his young age, he quickly demonstrated immense technical maturity and fearlessness on the pitch. Over his first two seasons, he became an increasingly important figure in their attacking system, helping the club secure the J2 League title and promotion to the top tier in 2022.

During the 2023 J1 League season, Mito was an absolute revelation. He scored crucial goals and dictated play from the wings, tormenting domestic defenders with his pace and close ball control. His spectacular domestic form was rightfully rewarded when he won the prestigious J.League Best Young Player award, signaling his readiness for a larger challenge.

Capitalizing on his immense potential, Mito signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Dutch Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam in December 2023. The transfer officially took effect in January 2024, marking his first venture into European football. He made a dream debut for the club, scoring a crucial goal in a victory over Fortuna Sittard and instantly endearing himself to the local supporters.

Throughout the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons, Mito firmly established himself as a regular starter for Sparta Rotterdam. Operating primarily as a left winger, his ability to cut inside and shoot proved highly effective in the Eredivisie. Despite a brief knee injury in late 2025, he rebounded spectacularly, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output with numerous goals and assists during the spring campaign.

Internationally, Mito has represented Japan across all major youth levels, starring for the U-17 and U-23 national teams. He gained valuable experience at international tournaments before making his senior debut for the Samurai Blue in 2025. As he continues to thrive in the Netherlands, he remains a highly valued attacking option for the Japanese national team heading into the 2026 fixtures.
