Reo Hatate

Juntendo University (2016–2019)
Hatate played collegiate football for Juntendo University, where he was recognized as one of the country's most promising prospects. He helped Japan win the Summer Universiade titles in 2017 and 2019 before graduating and turning professional.

Reo Hatate's professional career began with J1 League powerhouse Kawasaki Frontale in 2018, initially joining as a designated special player while completing his studies at Juntendo University. Upon fully integrating into the squad in 2020, his impact was immediate and profound. Operating primarily as a versatile midfielder and occasionally as a full-back, he played a crucial role as Frontale secured consecutive J1 League titles and domestic cups.

His standout performances in Japan caught the attention of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, leading to a high-profile transfer to the Scottish Premiership in January 2022. Hatate instantly endeared himself to the Celtic faithful, famously scoring two spectacular goals and providing an assist in his Old Firm derby debut against Rangers. This remarkable introduction set the tone for his tenure in Glasgow.

Throughout the subsequent seasons, Hatate became the heartbeat of the Celtic midfield. He was instrumental in securing back-to-back domestic trebles, earning individual accolades including spots in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year. His ability to control possession under extreme pressure and deliver defense-splitting passes made him an undisputed starter for the club.

During the 2025-2026 campaign, Hatate continued his dominant form, guiding Celtic to their fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title since his arrival.
