Nuhash Humayun

Nuhash Humayun completed his higher education at BRAC University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. During his time at the university, he actively engaged in creative projects and honed his skills in storytelling, laying the foundation for his future career in international filmmaking.

Nuhash Humayun began his career creating independent short films like 'Paperfrogs', '700 Taka', and 'Pizza Bhai', which quickly gained traction for their fresh storytelling. His early work demonstrated a keen eye for relatable, character-driven narratives that resonated strongly with younger audiences in Bangladesh. These initial projects proved his ability to work creatively with limited budgets and tight schedules.

He gained widespread significant attention when his segment in the anthology film 'Sincerely Yours, Dhaka' was celebrated internationally. The film had its world premiere at the 2018 Busan International Film Festival and later became Bangladesh's official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards. The project was subsequently acquired by Netflix, giving Nuhash his first major global exposure.

Humayun's reputation soared with the release of the horror anthology web series 'Pett Kata Shaw' on the Chorki streaming platform. His brilliant direction and use of local metaphors in the series were highly praised, leading to its selection for the prestigious Harbor section at the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The highly anticipated sequel series 'Dui Shaw' followed in 2025.

His short film 'Moshari' achieved historic and unprecedented success, winning numerous top awards at international film festivals and becoming the first-ever Oscar-qualifying film from Bangladesh. The film's critical acclaim attracted the attention of Hollywood heavyweights, with acclaimed talents Jordan Peele and Riz Ahmed signing on as executive producers to support the project.

Following the global triumph of 'Moshari', Nuhash secured representation with Anonymous Content and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in 2022. He was then tapped by the American streaming giant Hulu to direct an episode titled 'Foreigners Only' for their series 'Bite-Size Halloween', further cementing his status as a formidable international directorial talent.

Nuhash Humayun was born to legendary Bangladeshi novelist and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed and Gultekin Khan. His parents divorced when he was eleven years old, after which he was raised primarily by his mother and his three sisters, Nova, Shila, and Bipasha. He also has two half-brothers, Nishad and Ninith.

Growing up in the shadow of a literary and cinematic giant, Nuhash often faced pressure to follow his father's specific artistic path. However, he maintained a rebellious spirit, consciously choosing to distance himself from his father's immediate legacy to forge his own distinct identity in the film industry.

Despite the complexities of his family dynamics, Nuhash has spoken fondly of his mother as his primary inspiration and anchor. He was present at his father's funeral when he passed away from cancer in 2012. Today, he remains highly focused on his creative pursuits while honoring his unique personal history and maintaining a private personal life.
