Monika Chakma

Monika Chakma attended Rangamati Maghachari Government Primary School (2012-2013) and later Rangamati Ghagra High School, where she actively participated in inter-school sports tournaments.

She subsequently completed her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in Humanities from Monica Ghagra College, balancing her academic responsibilities with her rigorous athletic training.

Currently, she is pursuing her undergraduate studies at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) as of 2026, continuing her commitment to higher education alongside her professional football career.

Monika Chakma began her formal football journey when she participated in the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Football Tournament in 2010. Her raw talent quickly caught the attention of local coaches, leading to her selection for youth academies. By 2012, she had already made her mark in the Bangladesh Under-14 team, helping them secure a third-place finish in the AFC Tournament in Sri Lanka.

Her breakthrough on the international youth stage occurred during the 2017 AFC U-16 Women's Championship qualifiers. Monika's exceptional midfield control helped Bangladesh string together an undefeated run, capturing the attention of national selectors. She subsequently transitioned to the Under-19 squad, where her performances continued to garner widespread acclaim.

In 2019, Monika achieved global recognition during the Bangamata U-19 Women's International Gold Cup. She scored a spectacular volley against Mongolia that went viral and was featured on FIFA's "Fans' Favorite" page, earning her the famous moniker "Magical Chakma." This viral moment significantly boosted the visibility of women's football in Bangladesh.

Her senior club career flourished when she joined Bashundhara Kings in 2020, becoming a core component of their dominant domestic run. Over her tenure with the club, she secured multiple league titles and established herself as one of the premier midfielders in the region. She later expanded her horizons by playing for Paro FC Women and Farashganj.

On the international front, Monika was a pivotal member of the squad that secured the SAFF Women's Championship in both 2022 and 2024. As of 2026, she continues to be an ever-present force in the national team setup, guiding younger players while chasing further continental success in upcoming AFC tournaments.

Monika Chakma was born into a supportive family in Sumontpara, Lakshmichhari, located in the Khagrachari district of the Chattogram Division. She is the youngest of five daughters born to Bindu Kumar Chakma and Robi Mala Chakma. Her family has been a pillar of strength throughout her journey from a rural upbringing to international sporting fame.

Despite her busy schedule, Monika maintains a deep connection to her roots in Khagrachari. She frequently visits her hometown, where she is celebrated as a local hero and a symbol of indigenous pride. Her success has brought immense joy to her community, and she actively encourages young girls from her district to pursue their dreams in sports.

Off the field, Monika enjoys spending time with her family and close friends, often unwinding through music and local cultural events. She is known for her grounded personality and remains fiercely dedicated to philanthropic efforts that promote grassroots football development for underprivileged youth in rural Bangladesh.
