Duván Esteban Zapata Banguero

Zapata joined the youth academy of América de Cali in 2004 at the age of 13. He spent four years developing his fundamental skills and towering physical presence within their youth system before breaking into the senior squad in 2008.

Duván Zapata launched his professional career with América de Cali in 2008, making his senior debut and scoring in a match against Boyacá Chicó. Despite his young age, he showed immense promise, eventually securing a move to Argentine club Estudiantes in 2011. During his time in Argentina, he established himself as a starting forward and attracted massive attention from top European clubs.

In August 2013, Serie A giant Napoli signed Zapata, introducing the powerful striker to the rigors of European football. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal shortly after, proving he could compete at the very highest level. To gain more consistent starting minutes, he spent highly productive loan spells at Udinese and Sampdoria, consistently finding the back of the net.

After several historically successful seasons as Atalanta's primary talisman, Zapata sought a new challenge, joining Torino FC in 2024. He immediately assumed a vital leadership role, providing crucial goals and veteran experience to the Turin-based squad. As of 2026, he remains a key fixture in their starting lineup, recently extending his contract to reflect his continued value to the club.

Internationally, Zapata has been a trusted attacking option for the Colombia national team since making his senior debut in 2017. Duván Zapata was born and raised in Santiago de Cali, where his family encouraged his early passion for football. He is the cousin of fellow professional footballer Cristián Zapata, indicating a strong athletic pedigree within his family. Despite his fierce on-pitch persona, he is known off the pitch as a soft-spoken and deeply religious individual.

He is happily married to his longtime partner, Diana Montaño. The couple shares a closely-knit family with two children, a daughter named Dantzel and a son named Dayton.
