Chris Richards began his formal soccer development with the FC Dallas Academy, widely recognized as one of the premier youth systems in the United States. His standout performances in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy quickly drew international attention. In 2018, he secured a monumental move to Germany, joining the prestigious Bayern Munich academy on an initial loan that soon became a permanent transfer.

Developing within the Bayern Munich system, Richards made his professional debut for the reserve squad before earning his first-team debut in 2020. Recognizing the need for consistent senior minutes to accelerate his growth, he embarked on multiple successful loan spells with TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. In July 2022, Richards transferred to the English Premier League, signing a long-term contract with Crystal Palace.
