Breel Donald Embolo

Breel Embolo began his organized football education with Nordstern and Old Boys before successfully transitioning into the FC Basel youth system in 2010.

He rapidly progressed through Basel's academy ranks, winning two U-16 Swiss Championships and signing his first professional contract at just 16 years old.

Breel Embolo's professional career launched spectacularly at FC Basel, where he made his senior debut just weeks after his 17th birthday in 2014. He quickly established himself as one of Europe's brightest prospects, scoring crucial goals in the UEFA Champions League and helping Basel secure three consecutive Swiss Super League titles. His combination of strength and technical ability at such a young age made him a highly coveted asset across the continent.

In the summer of 2016, Embolo transferred to the German Bundesliga, signing with Schalke 04 for a significant fee. Unfortunately, his time at Schalke was heavily disrupted by a severe ankle injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. Despite this massive setback, he demonstrated immense mental fortitude to recover and regain his form, showcasing his resilience and determination to succeed at the highest level.

Seeking a fresh start, Embolo moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2019, where he enjoyed a highly productive three-year spell. Under a dynamic attacking system, he flourished, consistently contributing goals and assists in domestic and European competitions. His physical dominance and improved finishing made him a constant nuisance for Bundesliga defenders.

His impressive performances in Germany led to a transfer to AS Monaco in France's Ligue 1 in 2022. He quickly adapted to French football, becoming a key focal point in Monaco's attack. After a successful tenure in the Principality, Embolo embarked on a new chapter by joining Stade Rennais, where he continued to bring his vital goal-scoring touch and European experience to the squad leading into 2026.

On the international stage, Embolo chose to represent Switzerland and made his senior debut in 2015. He has been a mainstay in the national team, notably scoring against the country of his birth, Cameroon, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Approaching the 2026 World Cup, he remains the focal point of the Swiss attack, utilizing his vast international tournament experience to guide the younger generation of players.

Breel Embolo was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, but moved to France and later Switzerland with his mother at a young age. He successfully integrated into Swiss culture, obtaining his citizenship in December 2014, and frequently speaks about his deep connection to both his African roots and his adopted European homeland.

He is in a long-term relationship with his partner, Naomi, and the couple are proud parents to a daughter, Naliya, and a son, Clay. Embolo is known to be a dedicated family man, often celebrating his on-pitch successes with his children and prioritizing family time despite his demanding travel schedule.
